Orienteering Training
Manchester Outdoor Education Trust has been working in partnership with British Orienteering Federation to promote orienteering in the parks across Manchester. This has included training sessions for teachers and youth workers in virtual orienteering. The training was very well received by all the participants especially the part when they could test the use of the app by following a course in a park.
The training attracted workers from a wide cross section of organisations including voluntary sector community and youth groups, schools and leisure centres. The participants all had different ideas how they would use the app and orienteering in their settings as well as in parks. For many this had been their first introduction into the world of orienteering and the training definitely sparked an interest and desire to know more.
From MOET’s point of view we are always looking to create more opportunities for children and young people to explore and learn in an outdoor environment. We recognise that budget constraints and competing demands can often make taking groups outside of the city a real challenge. Orienteering in parks is free, educational, challenging and FUN and pretty much accessible to all. We hope that the Find Your Way project has helped lots of children and young people to develop the skills of orienteering and they will continue to use those skills in the future.
