Working with young people to facilitate Outdoor Learning and Adventurous Activity
These are two great courses for all Youth Leaders. They are a real opportunity to develop complimentary and a broader set of skills.
Objectives:- By the end of the course participants will have a:
- Greater understanding of how working in an outdoor environment with young people can facilitate youth work principles and practice.
- Basic set of skills to enable you to organise a high-quality experience for young people to participate in Outdoor Adventurous Activity, including the processes involved in organising a day/residential visit.
- Greater understanding of the barriers to participation and how to overcome some of these barriers.
- Examples of best practice through the participation in OAA activities
- Greater awareness of other training courses that will allow you to progress in developing skills in working with young people in an outdoor environment.
There are two parts to the course. You can attend either or both.
- Course one. A half day practical course at Debdale Outdoor Centre, Sunday 3rd October, 12 – 4pm
- Course two. Includes an overnight stay at Ghyll Head. This course is not a formal leadership qualification but provides a solid foundation for further development. The stay will include a tour of the site, discussion on the Youth Leaders role on a residential stay and participation in an activity. Transport and food on Saturday is included. Friday (eve) 13th / Saturday 14th November
